The production of the Beauty and Beast musical was scheduled to run until 15 January 2022, but productions after Christmas Eve have been cancelled.
First Minister of Wales Millennium Centre Mark Drakeford announced early today that new measures would come into effect on Boxing Day from 6 am.
They are a revised version of alert level two created to respond to the new Omicron variant, designed to help businesses stay open and trading, as well as protect customers and staff. A number of theatre companies have had to close their productions early as a result of the 6 and 2m distancing rule.
The Wales Millennium Centre released the following statement this afternoon:
Upon receiving the Welsh Government announcement that Wales Millennium Centre is moving to Alert Level 2, guidance on social distancing measures and indoor events, and to protect our audiences, staff, and production cast and crew, we regret to inform you that all scheduled performances have been cancelled from 26 December until at least 15 January 2022.
From 24 December, we will close the building completely.
The 23 and 24-December performances of Disney’s Beauty and Beast musical have also been cancelled due to Covid-enforced absences for the cast and crew.
In this case, the original booker will automatically receive a refund if you’ve bought tickets during this period.
My sincere thanks go out to all of you for your patience and support during this challenging time.”
