How To Relieve Neck And Shoulder Pain, And Achieve A Weightless Night’S Sleep

I need to confess something to you… I can’t remember a day when I didn’t have sore, tight shoulders or aching necks. I have developed a negative posture over time because I work from a laptop every day. Additionally, I have a habit of tensing my shoulders when I’m stressed which ultimately results in neck pain (which sometimes becomes a migraine).

It’s not that I’m looking for sympathy. It is not uncommon to suffer from tight muscles, knotted shoulders, and stiff necks, so I am not alone. As technologically-driven as our current lifestyles are, these aches and pains are inevitable.

In addition, despite the draining effects of neck and shoulder pain, few people are willing (or able) to completely give up screen time. In place of saying “never sit at a desk or stop working at a computer screen”, here are some more practical ways to relieve aching muscles…

Here Are 3 Ways To Relieve Neck And Shoulder Pain

1. Have A Weightless Night’s Sleep

You probably didn’t know that the material used in TEMPUR pillows and mattresses was originally developed by NASA to relieve pressure on astronauts during liftoff into space? Scientists have spent 10 years developing the original TEMPUR material, which conforms to your weight and shape.

Now would be a great time to invest in a TEMPUR pillow if you constantly deal with Relieve Neck And Shoulder Pain, as well as feeling stiff and achy after waking up. They have designed their pillows to relieve discomfort and provide support for your head, neck, and shoulders while you sleep.

The TEMPUR ergonomic pillow is on my list of birthday wishes this month since I’m getting married next month! Technology that is good enough for astronauts should be good enough for me…

2. Make Time For Stretching Every Day

Yoga plays an important role in my overall well-being, as you know. Three or four classes a week are usually enough for me. Each class has an immediate effect on my tight shoulders.

Among my favorite poses for neck and shoulder pain are the extended puppy pose, cow face pose, thread the needle, and standing forward bends. For anyone experiencing Relieve Neck And Shoulder Pain, I also recommend following Yoga With Adriene’s “Text Neck” video.

Additionally, I hope to give aerial yoga a try this year. The weightless/anti-gravity experience looks amazing and would help to replicate that feeling in space.

3. Adapt Your Handbag Habits

Recently, I had to see a physiotherapist because I was experiencing some issues with my spine and rib cage. This all stemmed from an uncomfortable neck and shoulders. One of the best pieces of advice the physiotherapist gave me was to adjust my handbag habits. The physiotherapist gave me these three guidelines…

The best practice is to carry a light, small crossbody bag when you can.

Use a backpack if you don’t have a small handbag: the weight will be evenly distributed across your back.

The key to ruining your outfit with your backpack is to switch your bag between your arms/shoulders throughout the day. The majority of us naturally favor one side of our bodies (I carry my handbag on my right shoulder), but this throws our posture off. To remedy this, switch your bag between the left and right shoulder every 30 minutes.
