Is Weetabix Healthy?

Researchers have found that Weetabix healthy is a healthy cereal that could prevent premature death. We explore some of the most recent research and discuss why this truly is the breakfast of champions.

Harvard researchers in 2016 found that eating whole grains decreased the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease by 9% and that eating them reduced the chance of dying from cancer by 5%. A study published in the American Heart Association Journal also found that eating 48g of whole grains reduced cardiovascular mortality risk by 25% and cancer mortality risk by 14%.

The purpose of this article is to examine what makes weetabix healthy so healthy and why you should switch to a healthy serving as soon as possible.

Refined grains vs. whole grains

The term “whole grain” implies that it consists of the entire grain from the plant, including bran, endosperm and germ, as opposed to refined grains that have been milled (ground into flour) to remove the bran and germ. A major disadvantage of this milling is that it strips grains of important nutrients such as B vitamins, iron, and dietary fibre, while it gives them a longer shelf life and a finer texture.

What are the benefits of whole grains?

Whole grains are better for your health than refined grains for a number of reasons.

  • Whole grains are an excellent source of fibre, whereas –refined grains are generally low in fibre.
  • Consuming enough fibre can help lower your blood cholesterol – you even reduce your chances of developing heart disease, strokes, and obesity with a diet rich in fibre!
  • Weight loss is possible with fibre – fibre is filled with fibre, so you feel full for longer and therefore consume fewer calories.
  • Other essential nutrients are also contained in grains – vitamins B1 (thiamin) and B2 (riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (niacin), Vitamin B9 (folate), magnesium, selenium, iron and others. These factors contribute to the formation of cells, the transportation of oxygen, and the regulation of your thyroid.

What are whole grain foods?

Weetabix healthy is just one of several whole-grain foods that are commonly consumed:

  • It’s popcorn time!
  • There’s wild rice too
  • As well as whole wheat
  • And whole oats

What is a reasonable amount to eat?

There have been several studies conducted in the last decade that suggest adults should eat at least half of their grains as whole grains, meaning at least three to five servings of whole grains a day, with children even needing two to three servings.

In the UK, there are no government-recommended amount of whole grains to consume per day, but Public Health England recommends that people consume 30 grams of fibre per day from fruit, vegetables, and whole grains.
